Pt1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It seemed our car VDL634 would have travelled a fair distance to the initial dealer. Leaving Canley in August for Munns and Underwood in Southsea\/Portsmouth. Catching the Portsmouth to Fishguard (car) ferry then, we assume, driving the short distance from Fishguard to Downing and Donovan in Ryde.<\/p>\n<p>At least 2 ferries were running in 1960, these were the Camber Queen and the Fishbourne.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll try to locate photos however we do know the fate of the ferries:\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Fishbourne was sold in 1984 to Pounds Shipping Marine at Portsmouth, who quickly resold her to a\u00a0Turkish Cypriot outfit, Seagull Marine Ltd. who renamed her Kibris I. She sank in bad\u00a0weather\u00a0in Morphou Bay on 5 February\u00a01985.<\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Camber\u00a0Queen was sold in 1984 to Transportes Fluvials de Sado Ltda, of Setubal, Portugal who operated her as the Mira Trioa,\u00a0until she was broken up, 2000<\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\"><br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>UPDATE:<\/strong> Camber Queen has a build date of 1961 &#8211; with a service from\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-style-span\">(BR\/Sealink: 1961-1984). Ltd, Troon for British Railways Southern Region (British Transport Commission). She entered service\u00a0between Lymington and Yarmouth in September 1959. She pioneered the use of Voith-Schneider propulsion units on a ferry. Not surprisingly, they were quite troublesome initially. In 1947 she passed to British Railways (British Transport Commission).\u00a0In 1974 Lymington was withdrawn and sold to Western Ferries for their Gourock-Dunoon service (to be followed by the next two Yarmouth car ferries\u00a0Farringford\u00a0and\u00a0Freshwater).<br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>Wootton\u00a0(SR\/BR\/Sealink: 1928-1961) &#8211; later\u00a0Wootton II<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.triumphheraldconvertible.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Freshwater-05_b.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It seemed our car VDL634 would have travelled a fair distance to the initial dealer.
