Pistons and Props – Sywell 2014

The Footman James Sywell Classic: Pistons and Props motoring festival continues to reach new heights after a successful second outing saw racing and aviation legends in action.

A pleasant drive to the airfield (a bit of a traffic jam en route thanks to a village ‘garage’ sale immediately before Sywell) but it didn’t damped spirits. We were dressed in a sixties smart gear and were even told we looked ‘fabulous’ as we walked our way in. We were too late to get ‘Classic Parking’ despite a huge area still left where all the classic could have parked together but, it seems we were in good company in the ‘normal’ car park with this lovely E-type Jaguar. Just in front was a DB5 Aston Martin, a Triumph TR3 (also in Signal Red and probably going through the Canley factory around the same time!)

A fantastic atmosphere, acrobatic airplanes flying, A Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane display and of course a smattering of fantastic metal, most static but some important race cars were on a special track area looking and sounding great. A big thumbs up for this relatively new event.
