The actual road – Victoria Street, in Ryde has changed very little since the 60’s as we can see in modern and period photos. The garage and showrooms for Downing and Donovan – Ryde Garage has gone and is now a public car park and one other house – a rather splendid-looking house slightly further up has been demolished too – to be replaced with not much at all; an open space?

The road is now one-way, where in the 1960’s it wasn’t. The traffic goes up hill and Ryde seems to have adopted a number of one way streets.

The second photo shows an overlay of from the Ryde carival, with the Garage shown on the left. The house/neighbour of Ryde garage even has the same chimney pots, with the space above the marching band heads the space where the missing house once stood.
