Following the same pattern? Dealer Cars

Our car VDL634 (Y15469CV) was build and despatched from Canley to Munns & Underwood (Portsmouth) through to the Isle of Wight Distributor Downing and Donovan August 1960. We know the car was present in the Isle of Wight in the dealership in September 1960 thanks to the fab newspaper advert mentioning the car. The car was a dealer demonstrator, initially a static display through ’till December where it was registered as VDL634 and subsquently used on the road – (driving demonstrator?) through until the ‘first’ sale around August 1961.

Similarly, 5046MT a Monaco Blue Convertible (Y16384CV) is also believed to have been a demonstrator – easy to believe as there were so few convertibles available to see anywhere in the Uk – let alone buy one! This particular car was first registered 17th May 1961 long after being despatched from Canley on 22nd September 1960.

So if your car has a long despatch v registered date – what was it doing during this time – perhaps a dealer demonstrator too!
